Except for one problem. No matter what we learn and discover, it keeps pointing right back to God. How inconvenient for the atheists. Their worldview obscures the truth with politics and agenda. If our universe started with a Big Bang, then how did that start? In this world, there are no effects without causes, so...
When the Middle Ages gave way to the Enlightenment, and the Age of Science began, the scientists of the day did not have these problems. That God existed and was responsible for everything was assumed, giving them incredible freedom. Unafraid that their discoveries would jeopardize the truthfulness of God but only reveal Him further, they took risks, questioned assumptions, and broke open a whole new world. Scientific progress leaped forward.
As Christians today, we must not forget that we believe in that same God. Our God is still greater, mightier, smarter, and more amazing than any technological advance, and nothing, NOTHING, we have or could ever discover can change the fact of His existence and his omnipotence. Christians should be the most fearless scientists of all. We should, instead, be concerned for the well-being of the atheists, for it is their worldview that science will crumble.
At Trinity, we love science because we love our amazing God. Everything we learn about His world helps us to know him better. Each time we discover something new, from an unusual insect to a boson particle, we learn more about Him. I picture him laughing with joy when he sees our awestruck faces. He has been waiting a long time for us to discover that.
This fearless joy in learning about our Creator is what science is all about. The science curriculum we started this year in our elementary school begins with awe, and then follows up with the facts and skills to explore what is so amazing. This trains our young people to observe and think like Christian scientists, prepares them to discover Truth through honest scientific inquiry, and then helps them to speak that Truth into our culture.
