The Head of School search process has taught us to trust that God is leading our school and that we must be faithful in waiting on Him. Let me share a part of this story with you. As you are aware, we conducted a national search for a new Head of School since Nancy Shaw made her retirement plans public last fall. The search generated great interest, and among the applicants were some excellent candidates from both the mainland and locally. However, due to various circumstances, God did not allow the search to be concluded as we expected. We continued the process and looked at new candidates but it became clear that these individuals were not what God had in mind. In the midst of this difficult time, we reminded ourselves that God is in control, and that we needed to recognize our need for Him more than anything else. As we reviewed various interim solutions, Steve sensed God's call—when he had not before even considered applying for the position himself—to step forward in faith and apply, offering to lead the school this coming year or longer as needed. This will be a critical period, as Steve comes with an open mind and a listening heart to help position TCS for the future.
Steve is no stranger to Trinity Christian School. He has been a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church since the Navy moved him here in 2011 with his wife Andrea and two children (5 and 8), and he has been active on the School Board since late last summer. In that time, he enthusiastically supported the Head of School search. Then, after the last of the other candidates were eliminated, Steve recused himself from all board duties and submitted his own application. This came as a surprise to the board, but also as an answer to prayer. I won’t recount all the details of how God led Steve to apply, but I would encourage you to seek him out and hear his story. After reviewing his application and putting him through the interview process, the board offered him the Head of School position with much excitement. While Steve does not come to us from another school, he does bring a valuable workplace perspective, having served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years in many demanding leadership roles. His academic credentials include two master’s degrees and three years teaching as an Assistant Professor of History at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Most importantly, he loves Jesus Christ and classical Christian education, and has a heart for Trinity Christian School.
Steve will soon retire from the Navy, and we expect him to begin full-time as the new Head of School on July 22. During the interim period between now and that date, you will likely see him on campus periodically.
Please join us in congratulating Steve on his new position and pray with him and the School Board that we will continue to be wise stewards of the treasure God has given us in Trinity Christian School and the privilege of educating your children to the glory of God. You are invited to meet Steve on Monday, April 8 at 7:00pm in the Trinity Church sanctuary. He will share a bit about himself and vision for the school. There will be time for you to ask questions and welcome him to our school.
As we continue to hear the accolades for TCS that continue to pour in, and particularly for our first graduating senior class, we cannot help but look forward with expectant hearts for the next chapter in our school to unfold.
Blessings in Christ,
Jason Y. Kimura
