Each 4th grade class that I have had the honor to teach learned a poem that is my ‘charge to them’. This charge is a reminder for this year’s senior class as well. You are well loved and Trinity is rooting for you. The message is also for all of us-whether we are a student trying to figure out which algorithm to use on the math test, a teacher who works tirelessly on report cards, or a parent who is faced with a defiant child. Be Strong.
Be Strong
By Maltbie Davenport Babcock
Be strong!
We are not here to play, to dream, to drift;
We have hard work to do and loads to lift;
Shun not the struggle – face it; ‘tis God’s gift.
Be strong!
Say not, “The days are evil. Who’s to blame?”
And fold the hands and acquiesce – oh, shame!
Stand up, speak out, and bravely, in God’s name.
Be strong!
It matters not how deep entrenched the wrong,
How hard the battle goes, the day how long;
Faint not – fight on! Tomorrow comes the song.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” Ephesians 6:10-11
