This is a story of Providence and the announcement of a wonderful opportunity.
I shouldn't be surprised at how God orchestrates things in our lives. This past summer, I received a phone call from a teacher who wanted to visit a classical Christian school. This teacher had secured a teaching position in a classical Christian school in Seoul, South Korea and they had suggested he visit a cCe school. Since we are the only classical school on Oahu, he visited during the summer. As we spoke during his visit, the possibility of a cultural and educational exchange was discussed. Providentially, my husband and I were vacationing in Seoul this past fall break so we scheduled to visit the school.
On a beautiful fall day, I visited the five-year-old school of 90 students. The school is located in a residential area of Seoul. It is an international school so their core courses are taught in English. The school accepts students from preschool age and this year they added a 9th grade. This school has many similarities to Trinity as they grow and mature each year.
To provide their student with a Christian education, these Korean parents are being asked to take a big leap of faith. Seoul International Christian Academy (SICA) does not use the government sanctioned public school curriculum and therefore is not "accredited". Their students must take a GED-type high school diploma test when they graduate from high school. Korean culture also puts a heavy emphasis on testing to get into a prestigious university. Not getting into a prestigious university may affect their future career. However, the school's founder and principal, Dr. Lee, strongly believes in teaching students from a Christian worldview, educating in the classical methodology, and providing a large portion of their education in English.
Homestay Opportunity
This January, six students from SICA will be visiting our school for three weeks. This will be an opportunity for them to be a part of a more established classical Christian school and expand on their English language skills. Our students will be privileged to be role models of our Aloha and hopefully, visit SICA someday. We are looking for six families that would be willing to host a student from January 2-21. The students are aged 13-16. We are also looking for one family that would be willing to take the vice principal and her daughter. Your student does not have to be in their particular grade. We are looking for families that are willing to share our Hawaiian aloha, Christian hospitality, and drop them off to school every day. If you are willing to host a student, would you please email me? Thank you very much.
