- The School Board will be working in earnest this summer on board governance, committees, plans, and processes following a recent visit from Keith Nix, a school board consultant and Chairman of the Society for Classical Learning.
- I was selected as a Van Lunen Fellow, a year-long program designed to better equip school heads in the executive management of Christian schools. I’ll travel three times throughout the year and work on a school-related project. I’ve already received a stack of books to read!
- Principal Jeanne Wilks was selected for a master’s program offered jointly by Hawaii Association of Independent School (HAIS) and University of Hawaii. It will result in a Master’s of Education in Private School Leadership and also includes research and a project related to our school.
- 4th Grade teacher Vicki Leong was selected for the same HAIS/UH master’s program and will begin instruction this summer alongside Principal Wilks.
- Principal Jennifer Cable and I will be taking two teachers to a conference in Atlanta sponsored by the Society for Classical Learning. We’ll have two additional teachers attending a conference in Dallas by the Association of Classical Christian Schools. Principal Cable will also be preparing this summer for next year’s accreditation visit.
- Each summer the school purchases a book for all the faculty and staff to read. This year, we’ve given them a choice between two excellent books related to Christian ministry: Taking God at His Word and Side By Side. Each principal may assign additional books related to classical education within their respective division.
- And, our teachers will do many other activities this summer, personal and professional. Some will be teaching summer school, one is experimenting with new curriculum, another will be painting the school, and one is hiking the John Muir trail.
In Christ,
Stephen Sprague
