It is not simply commitment and perseverance that are required to successfully complete the biathlon, but commitment and perseverance over time. The secondary P.E. program focuses training entirely for this one event. We ask our students to have dedication and tenacity that is well beyond their maturity. Auntie Mikie and Coach Chong help train the students every week throughout the year so they can run the race set before them. This training in commitment and perseverance is as important as the physical training itself. Our students may not continue to compete in biathlons after they leave TCS. But we know they will continue to find themselves in equally challenging situations.
This same dedication over time is required to become a Trinity graduate. Throughout their time here, we challenge students to delve deeply into theology, grasp difficult literature, pursue higher mathematic study, debate in a God honoring manner, and research, produce and defend a thesis. And it is preparation from the complete Trinity experience-as found in biathlon training-that allows our students to accomplish these things. From preschool through high school, our students are trained in the skills, attitudes, habits and knowledge that they will need not just to survive, but to thrive. Most importantly, they are trained in the grace of the gospel, which allows for learning and improving along the way.
The biathlon is not merely a component of our P.E. program. It is a physical, mental and spiritual manifestation of our vision for our students. Just like a math quiz, the science fair, and our House system, the biathlon is significant because it is part of the greater whole of a Trinity education.
