On our arrival in Paris by an overnight train, we met our wonderful guide, Christian. He helped us board the bus and took us on an orientation through the city. On our bus tour, we saw the Arc de Triomphe, the Bastille Prison, the Louvre, and of course, the Eiffel Tower.
As we continued our orientation through Paris, we were fortunate enough to see a half-marathon taking place. It was an exciting surprise to see hundreds of colorfully-clothed runners flowing through the streets.
When our tour was done, we left the bus to see the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral. It’s Notre Dame’s eight-hundred-fiftieth anniversary, (amazing, right?) so a celebration was taking place just outside the building. This church is filled with beautifully painted decorations, original marble floors, and stained-glass windows. Immediately after Notre Dame, we walked over to a creperie and ordered some delicious confections. We tried two different flavors/preparations; a banana, nutella, and coconut crepe and a jambon et fromage (ham and cheese) crepe.
In the afternoon, we split into two groups. One group decided to go the the Louvre, and the other decided to go shopping and to see the Eiffel Tower. I went with the Louvre group as we saw famous works of art, including, of course, the Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci. The other group found plenty of souvenirs and took some great shots of the Eiffel Tower. Unfortuantely, they werent able to get close, as ther was a bomb threat.
We all had an amazing experience in Paris. It is a uniquely beautiful place that is filled with enriching history and sights. I’m so grateful we got to see France! Au revouir!
