always interesting to address in the temporal mind of teens (or adults for that matter). This upcoming week in chapel I will be challenging students to think with a more eternal perspective, and this has been a good and challenging exercise for me as well. How much of my daily life reflects my understanding of my status in eternity? When I embrace my eternal citizenship, my motivation improves, I am more patient with people, I value the people I interact with more, and I am more aware of not only the importance of my eternal standing, but theirs as well. When I gain an eternal perspective, I increase my ability and my desire to live out the gospel.
The hymn writer Helen Lemmel may have said it best,
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Next week, as I challenge the secondary school students to live life in the understanding of their eternal citizenship, I encourage you to address this at home as well. May our focus on Christ be such that our earthly desires grow dim!
