God often calls us to a task that is far beyond what we believe we can accomplish. This is true of our students here at Trinity, our faculty and administration, and it is true for you. He does this so that we may see our need for Him. Significant tasks—whether they be large homework assignments, big projects at work, or the day-to-day rearing of children—are overwhelming. They require more strength and wisdom than we will ever gain on this earth. However, when we rely on God’s strength, we are strong enough. When we trust in His wisdom, we are wise enough.
In His great love for us, God has designed each of our lives for His glory. And He will lead us down paths on which we feel ill-equipped and unprepared. That means we will risk doing things poorly and may even fail. But rather than
despair, we can turn to and rely upon our Lord, and then try again. In fact, we should get so acquainted with the cycle of doing poorly and relying upon the Lord, that we actually become comfortable within it. This doesn’t mean that our goal is mediocrity—God would never be glorified in a half-hearted effort. It means that we do our best work without fear of failure. It means we are courageous and take risks for things worth doing. We can take risks for God, because He does not hold us to some measuring stick of success, but guides us toward faithfulness. May we be faithful to His call for us at Trinity.
