The fall was busy for the PTF with the iDcard fundraiser and a staff appreciation luncheon. There were many days I felt there was too much to do, and wasn’t sure how to manage the PTF responsibilities in addition to my job at TCS, and everything else that comes with being a wife and mother. In hindsight, I now see both events as a success and can see the benefits for me personally and for TCS. I don’t know anyone who enjoys fundraising, but we know it is often a part of many activities and organizations. Should TCS charge families a little more in tuition and allocate that to PTF and not do any fundraising? Should an event like the staff appreciation luncheon be outsourced? If we hired a caterer with some of our fundraising money, it might be easier for everyone!
What I’ve decided, is our time and our money are precious. We need to make careful decisions with both. I pushed up my shirt sleeves and provided oversight and direction for both the fundraiser and the luncheon. The team of parents that fell in behind me were invaluable. The success of these events is truly attributed to their willingness to get involved. At the end, I looked back at these parents and thought we are forever connected. I don’t know if we will ever be on a committee together again, but we were bound together with a unifying goal, and a relationship was built. As precious as our time and money are, our relationships with others are equally as important. Our willingness to serve God by way of serving the school both reaps and sows so many benefits!
This is how we build a community. We hold hands and do it together. We help in the classroom, we organize a luncheon, we attend the Spring Gala, we come to a PTF meeting, we serve as a room parent, and we participate in a fundraiser. Yes, our time and money are important, but we need to be part of a larger community at TCS. You and your children will reap the rewards of relationships and service each time you step forward and get involved.
