God’s faithfulness to our school continues from generation to generation. This covenant of love is clearly evident with the provision of Steve Sprague as the new Headmaster of Trinity Christian School. His skills, experiences, and desires are uniquely shaped to lead Trinity into the next generation.
Steve was raised in a Christian home in northern California, and he put his faith in Christ at an early age. Over the years since, God has used Steve’s extensive education and 20-year military career to challenge, humble, and mold him into a leader and a man of Faith.
Following in the steps of his father and grandfather, he graduated from the Naval Academy with a degree in Systems Engineering. After which, he went on to earn two masters degrees: an MS in Electrical Engineering and an MA in Military Arts and Science. All the while, Steve was a passionate student of God’s word. He has served the Navy in various leadership roles all around the globe, and endeavored to apply a biblical worldview in every context. More recently, he taught as an Assistant Professor of History at the U.S. Air Force Academy. It was through this experience teaching that his convictions grew for Christian education and the classical method. He will tell you, “What I saw most essential and yet most lacking in my students are the very things that a classical Christian education directly addresses.”
Steve has been married to Andrea for 19 years, and they have two daughters, LeighAnna and
Lydia, whom they adopted from China. They have been homeschooling their children since 2010, using classical Christian curriculum and methods from the start. As a member of Trinity Church, Steve was elected to serve on our School Board. It was in this setting that I came to know Steve as a humble, passionate leader and interested in the educational movement to which Trinity is so committed.
Steve actively participated in the School Board’s search for a new Head of School through many twists and turns. Sometime after the various leads ran dry, he felt God’s calling. While he
envisioned leading a cCE school sometime in the future, he’ll tell you that this was not his timing, and he initially struggled with the idea of leaving the Navy early. But then he yielded to God’s timing, recused himself from the Board, and applied for the position. The Board recognized that his years of leadership in varying capacities, his experience teaching cadets and developing
faculty at the Air Force Academy, his heart for ministry, and that God had prepared Steve
perfectly to lead Trinity Christian School in its next phase of development. It gives me incredible peace knowing that God continues to love our school by providing exactly what we need and when we need it. I am confident our school will thrive under Steve’s leadership. Please join me in praying for Steve and his family as he transitions from the Navy to Trinity in the coming months.
In Christ,
Nancy Shaw
