I am a sports fan. I watch Sports Center, I get updates on my phone, I talk sports with friends, and I am a diehard Washington Redskins fan. I yell at the TV, and live and die by the outcome of the game. The Latin word for adore means to give homage or worship to someone or something, and when understanding and applying the definition, I can be described as a worshipper of the Washington Redskins. Have you ever examined your life to see what you adore or what you worship? We live in a world that has misguided worship of pop stars, athletes, possessions, and dreams. We are all individuals who practice the art of worship, but often misdirected worship. One of our goals at Trinity is to teach students about worship. When activities are done to the end of glorifying God, they are an act of worship, an expression of our adoration of Him. To this end, education has the potential, when done to its highest end, to be an act of worship. When is the last time you completed your homework as a means of glorifying God by using the gifts and talents he has given. This is counter cultural and difficult concept to grasp, and one that must be brought to our attention in order to embrace it. The process of education moves from receiving a grade that will please my parents to honoring and worshipping the creator of the universe by best utilizing the gifts He has given you. Take time this week realign your understanding of worship, what are you worshipping that is not worthy of your adoration, and how can you use your daily responsibilities as an means of worshipping the one who is worthy of our praise.
