Today we woke up to the sun rising from the English Channel in a display of beautiful flowers. After a delicious breakfast, we set off for our visit to Dover Castle. It was quite chilly and windy today but weather could not take away from the beauty of the castle. Dover Castle is nestled on the top of the famous White Cliffs of Dover. The medieval castle was built by Henry II in the 1500s. The castle’s main tower, the Great Tower, was decorated in medieval style four years ago by English Heritage so the castle looked as it would have during its time of use. It was absolutely amazing to walk up and down the spiral staircase, going into little alcoves to look out stained glass windows towards the sea. The beauty of the massive castle was awesome. Dover Castle also contains medieval tunnels and secret wartime tunnels that were used during World War Two. I was unable to go in to the medieval tunnels, some others were able to. However I was able to take a tour of the World War Two tunnels. There is over 4 miles of tunnels within the cliffs of Dover. It was so fascinating to walk through tunnels that were the frontlines of the Battle of Britain. The whole Dover Castle experience was, to me, one of the best so far of this awesome trip.
