“I saw TJ at the park yesterday with my cousin.” “Was TJ at the park with your cousin or did you go to the park with your cousin and you saw TJ there?” “Yep, we saw him”, “Look what I did Miss Tricia!” “Wow, you used both of your favorite colors yellow and orange and you drew some large circles across the paper, fantastic.”, “My dad is big he is bigger than you” “Yes, your dad is very tall.”, “I can count all of these watch me 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,,14,17,19” “Okay let’s try it again point to each one as you count.” “1,2,3,4,5” “right there are 5, good counting.”
Little ears are hearing and sometimes listening. Little eyes are always seeing unless of course they are finally sleeping. The morning ends. Some children head home as their preschool day ends while others get ready for lunch and nap. And after such a busy morning the question is always asked “What did you do today?” and the answer is usually “nothing much.” But really the answer should be “everything.” During the morning the children were discovering how things work, building muscle control and strength, using their imaginations, solving problems and learning to cooperate with others or simply put they were playing. Play is the work of children and toys are their tools.
What a joy to work in such a place where these little students come to listen and learn, where they engage and are active, and where they change and grow. Thank you, Lord, for busy bodies!
