As I was preparing the 11th and 12th grade leadership students for their roles in the Makahiki I was again impressed with the confidence and maturity of these students. One of the major assignments given the leadership students is managing the parking at the Makahiki. Three students recruited volunteers to fill 50 slots, organized the volunteers, trained the volunteers, then executed their plan at the event. In days leading up to the Makahiki I was struck by the irony of the parking lot opportunity.
If you came to the Makahiki, I know you too were impressed by these students. These KIDS (16-18 years old) greeted every parent and visitor that entered the event and thoughtfully directed them to available stalls. This is a big job! Your experience of the Makahiki and possibly of TCS was colored from the moment you drove onto the Makai Campus by these students.
When I first drove on to the Mauka Campus twelve years ago the school only went through sixth grade. TCS will graduate a fifth senior class in May of 2017 and as a parent I continue to be impressed with the maturity, integrity, leadership, and humility of the TCS students. I am thankful my children are receiving the education they are, but also the training in character.
TCS is hosting a dinner and presentation “Growing A Graduate” on the Mauka Campus, Thursday, November 10. If you want to hear more about the secondary school, the Grand Tour, or have general questions take advantage of this opportunity. Students and teachers will be speaking and answering your questions. This dinner is open to current TCS families and the public. Please invite others who are interested in the TCS Secondary School.
