Michelangelo once said, “The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection.” This famous artist’s statement encapsulates our vision at Trinity Christian School. We all have a purpose in God’s epic story. However, we are in no way equal in authorship to our Lord. Our God is the only true divine Creator. He spoke all existence into being by saying, “Let there be…” Genesis 1 tells us that He created everything ex nihilo—from nothingness. Since we, mankind, are made in His image, so, too, do we desire to create in one form or another. We were purposely born with a soul that intrinsically needs to express itself. These beautiful self-expressions can take many various art forms: song, dance, poem, story, play, sculpture or picture.
Students of the arts stand to gain a very strong personal work ethic. Michelangelo, world-renowned master painter and sculptor, said "If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn't seem so wonderful at all." This statement does not invalidate the wonderful works of this magnificent artist. Rather, it redirects our attention to the hard work it took him to reach his level of mastery! Michelangelo was reminding us of the countless years he spent as an apprentice studying, copying, drawing, experimenting, toiling, failing and eventually mastering his craft. Purposed with the goal of pleasing God is certainly not for the faint-of-heart. "Lord, grant that I may always desire more than I can accomplish." This amazing artist was blessed with a heavenly vision that was beyond his earthly existence. Michelangelo's long life of 89 years is a testament of a grateful, purposeful and prolific stewardship toward his Creator. "Many believe - and I believe - that I have been designated for this work by God. In spite of my old age, I do not want to give it up; I work out of love for God and I put all my hope in Him.” Attributes such as vision, motivation, patience, diligence, isolation, reflection, humility and courage are but a few of the virtues that result from the life of an artist called by God. Michelangelo summed it up well, "Genius is eternal patience."
Please join us on Friday, May 15th for our annual Fine Arts Night. We are excited to share with you the fruit of our students’ labor— their works of art, as well as song, dance, poem, and play!
